“Judge Marjorie Rendell, first lady of Pennsylvania, (and) … a judge on the U.S. District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania, has been traveling throughout the state promoting civic education.
…. Rendell spoke at a luncheon at Arcadia University to discuss how to better integrate civic education into curriculum across the grades and throughout the disciplines.
‘We have a democracy, and a democracy requires participation. You can’t have people interested in the process without being informed and engaged from a young age,’ Rendell said.
‘We’ve lost a lot of the civic education curriculum in the past, and as a result of that, there is some apathy. With only half the people voting, we need to change that. I think this generation has a chance to make that change.’ ”
