Book Subvention Program

Library
Academic publishing is the single most important factor in the success of a professor’s early career. Due to growing economic pressure, however, many publishers and editors are seeking supplemental funds to enhance the probability of a book’s success. These supplemental funds, called “subventions,” are a growing trend in the modern academy. The Jack Miller Center, through the generous support of one of our donor partners, established a Book Subvention Program in the fall of 2008.
Eligible manuscripts are those that are complete, have succeeded in the normal academic review process and received a provisional contract from the press. The Jack Miller Center will consider any manuscript dedicated to the subject of the American Founding and Constitutional History (broadly understood). Applications are submitted by the university press, with a production budget, sample reviews, and an agreement to acknowledge the JMC subvention in the front matter of the book.
Applications will be evaluated by the Miller Center staff and a board of advisors based on its excellence in subject matter, scholarly merit, and whether a subvention will make a substantial contribution to the manuscript’s eventual success.
