America250 Media Fellowship

Successful applicants will demonstrate:

• Strong scholarly credentials and subject-matter expertise

• The ability to communicate complex historical ideas with clarity and balance

• A proven record of writing for public or general audiences (or clear potential to do so)

The Fellow’s primary responsibility is to produce original articles written for non-specialist audiences and published in prominent popular outlets. During the fellowship year, each America250 Fellow will:

• Research and write three to five original, publishable articles for popular media outlets such as newspapers, magazines, and widely read digital platforms, using their affiliation with the Jack Miller Center.

• Address topics related to the political, intellectual, social, legal, cultural, or global dimensions of the American founding.

• Explore themes related to the Jack Miller Center’s mission such as liberty, equality, governance, constitutionalism, conflict, continuity, and the contested meanings of the American Revolution and its legacy.

• Be available for up to five media interviews during the fellowship term, coordinated by the Jack Miller Center.

The Jack Miller Center communications team will be available to assist with editing and placement, as well as additional media opportunities. 

The America 250 Media Fellowship welcomes proposals on a wide range of subjects related to America’s founding era, including the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the principles and figures that shaped the nation’s founding. Fellows may also write on topics in civic education, American political thought, and the enduring relevance of founding ideals to contemporary life. Proposals addressing subjects outside the founding era will also be considered, provided they engage meaningfully with questions of civic education, American political history, or the principles that continue to shape our national life today.
