The University of Houston’s Annual Constitution Day Lecture
In this Constitution Day lecture, Dr. Steven Skultety will explore the Declaration and how it articulates our first principles upon which the Constitution has been established. The lecture takes place on September 18 at 1:00 pm.
Dr. Steven Skultety, Chair and Professor of Philosophy and the Director of the Declaration of Independence Center for American Freedom at the University of Mississippi, will deliver the University of Houston’s Constitution Day lecture on Friday, Sept. 18, 2026. This is the first in a series of lectures for the Lyceum Initiative, which is dedicated to reviving civic education through celebrations of America’s Semiquincentennial.
This lecture for Constitution Day will explore the Declaration and its articulates of first principles upon which our constitutional form of government has been established, a fitting subject for Constitution Day 2026, looking at the Declaration as an inspiration and foundation for the Constitution.
The lecture is also the culmination of a series of events during a week of Constitution Day activities. The audience for this event, which is open to the public, will include Faculty and students in the Honors College, especially students in the Phronēsis Honors Minor, first year students in our great books class “The Human Situation,” as well as students from the Political Science’s graduate program and The Tocqueville Forum.
