Post-doctoral Fellow in American Studies
The Department of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow in American Studies, with annual renewal possible for a total of three years, effective August 21, 2017. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. The successful candidate will have an appropriate Ph.D. by August 21, 2017, a teaching/research focus, and expertise in the study of America’s origins and religion, or America’s place on the world stage.
The successful candidate must be academically qualified and prepared to teach in the American Studies core, including AMST 100, the foundations of America, and AMST 200, the evolution of America, or AMST 300, a course that focuses on America’s role in the world, as well as an upper lever course in the area of the individual’s expertise. The successful candidate will hold a concurrent appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the University’s Center for American Studies, an interdisciplinary center that promotes teaching and scholarship on America’s founding principles and history, economic foundations, and national security. The normal teaching load for tenure track appointments is 2-2. Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable.
