Christopher Kelly is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science at Boston College. He has also taught at Yale University, University of Maryland Baltimore County, Dartmouth College, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, and Charles University. He graduated from Yale University and received his PhD from the University of Toronto.

He is the author of two books on Rousseau and essays on Rousseau, Tocqueville, Hobbes, Thucydides, and others. He is also the editor (with Roger D. Masters) of The Collected Writings of Rousseau and of several collections of essays. His interests are in Enlightenment political thought and the relation between political theory and literature.
