Drew Kurlowski

Associate Professor of Political Science, Coastal Carolina University
Drew Kurlowski is Associate Professor of Political Science at Coastal Carolina University. He is a scholar of political participation broadly, with narrower specialties in campaigns and elections and the historical development of election law. He has published one book, Rules Matter: Election Law Revealed, and other articles on state party development and political primaries. His recent work has begun to focus on leadership and virtue in the writings of the founders.
He is a frequent contributor to local and state media. His teaching includes upper level courses on political psychology, the politics of the south, and American political thought. In 2023, he was named Distinguished Professor of the Year. He is the founding co-director of the Cincinnatus Center, a grant funded center that aims to promote civic education and the tradition of American political thought at Coastal Carolina and in the surrounding community. He currently serves the University as Chair of the Faculty Senate.
Dr. Kurlowski earned his M.A from the University of Virginia and his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Missouri.
