Ryan Owens

Ryan Owens is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. In August 2024, he will begin as the Director of the Institute for Governance and Civics at Florida State University.
Professor Owens has focused his research on law, the judicial system, and American political institutions. His work has appeared in publications such as the American Journal of Political Science, the Journal of Politics, and the Georgetown Law Journal. Owens received a B.A. in Political Science and History and a J.D. in Law from UW – Madison.
He earned both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Washington University – St. Louis. Before joining UW, Dr. Owens practiced law and later was an Assistant Professor of Government at Harvard University.
