Gregory Collins (Yale University) will give a lecture on Adam Smith and the United States at the University of Pennsylvania on October 28 as part of a four-event seminar series.

Published in 1776, The Wealth of Nations laid the foundations of modern economics. Two and a half centuries later, Adam Smith’s ideas continue to shape debates on markets, prosperity, political institutions, and the role of government.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of The Wealth of Nations, the Penn Initiative for the Study of Markets (PISM) is hosting a four-event seminar series featuring leading experts on Adam Smith’s philosophy, political thought, and economics, together with a special exhibition at Penn’s Kislak Center showcasing first editions of The Wealth of Nations, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and other rare works.
