Do We Still “Hold these Truths”? The Declaration of Independence at 250
JMC Board Member and Academic Council Chair Elizabeth Kaufer Busch, JMC Faculty Partner Matthew Franck, and Jeffrey Rosen will participate in a panel presented by the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University on September 30 at 4:30pm.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” So said the founders of our Nation, but as we approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States, we pause to ask: Do we Americans still “hold these truths”? Do we maintain the faith of the Founders? Or have we abandoned it? Our distinguished panel will reflect on these timely questions.
