Fife Fellows Founding Mini-Conference

JMC Fellows Matthew Reising, Connor Ewing, Cara Rogers Stevens, and Kirstin Birkhaug will participate in a mini-conference with the Fife Fellows Program at Michigan State University on November 14.

Michigan

This event will comprise four sessions combining a colloquium with a research workshop to help students understand the research process. Two sessions are devoted to reading original sources from the Founding, focusing on the Imperial Crisis of the 1760s and the lead-up to the Declaration of Independence, respectively. The other two sessions are research workshops for the invited scholars working on the Founding with two scholars presenting papers in each session. They will then receive comments from the students and attending faculty. This structure will not only aid the scholars who are working on this period, but also enable students to better see what the research process looks like and be active participants in giving the scholars feedback and hearing their insights on their projects. In short, students would be able to engage both with original writings from the Founding and with scholars doing research on the Founding.
