Founding Civics Summer Book Club: Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass

Join JMC for a summer reading group on Frederick Douglass’ first autobiography.

Virtual Event

This club of up to ten teachers will read the entirety of Douglass’ Narrative. Not only does the text tell Douglass’ powerful personal story, but it also emphasizes the central theme of literacy as a key to achieving true freedom. We will also discuss strategies for teaching this book with high school students.

The book club discussions will be facilitated by JMC Senior Fellow for K-12 Civic Education Andrew Carico.

This club will meet virtually on Monday and Wednesday from 7 – 8 pm ET during the weeks of June 15th and 22nd. Teachers will receive a $100 Amazon gift card for participation in the Club.

Spots in this book club will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
