Summer Seminar at Michigan State: Philosophical Foundations of American Constitutionalism
The LeFrak Forum at Michigan State University, with the support of the Jack Miller Center, is hosting a one-day professional development program in East Lansing for Michigan social studies teachers.
Through close reading and discussion of primary texts, participants in the seminar will examine how the Founders sought to ground political authority in moral principles while designing institutions capable of preserving liberty over time. Special emphasis will be placed on the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the principles of natural rights, constitutional government, and the pursuit of happiness. Overall, this program is designed to support educators in deepening their content knowledge and exploring effective classroom approaches to these foundational documents.
The program will be facilitated by Professor Raul Rodriguez, director of the LeFrak Forum.
The seminar will run from 11 am – 4 pm on Friday, August 14. Lunch will be provided, and participants will receive a $150 stipend for completion of the program.
