Symposium at Florida State University on the Declaration of Independence

The Institute for Governance and Civics at Florida State University, with support from the Jack Miller Center, is hosting a three-day teacher symposium in Tallahassee titled “We Hold These Truths.”

Florida

This professional development experience, designed primarily for 4th–6th grade teachers, but open to all social studies teachers, will feature small-group, seminar-style discussions led by nationally recognized scholars on topics such as the nature of rights, the consent of the governed, equality, and the pursuit of happiness. The program will give special attention to these topics’ implications for the classroom.

Participants will receive a $500 stipend upon completion of the symposium. Meals will be provided and hotel accommodations are available for out-of-town attendees.
