Summer Civics Symposium at Jacksonville State University

The Center for Leadership and American Principles at Jacksonville State University, with the support of the Jack Miller Center, is hosting a three-day symposium for middle and high school social studies teachers.

Alabama

Participants will dive into key primary sources in American political thought from the colonial period to the contemporary moment, addressing questions about the nature of American government, the core ideas of American civic life, and how to create a popular government free from tyranny.

Through scholar-led discussions of these primary sources and sessions focused on classroom application, the symposium will equip teachers to lead students in the study of primary source documents that align with new state standards in Alabama.

Faculty for the symposium will include Jacksonville State Professor Benjamin Gross as well as visiting scholars.

Participants will receive a $150 stipend for completing the symposium + mileage reimbursement. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided each day of the program.

The deadline to apply is Friday, May 22.
