Teacher Symposium at Jacksonville State: Investigating Foundational Questions in Civics
Jacksonville State University, with the support of the Jack Miller Center, is offering a three-day symposium in Anniston, AL for middle and high school social studies teachers.
Participants will dive into key primary sources in American political thought from the colonial period to the contemporary moment, addressing questions about the nature of American government, the core ideas of American civic life, and how to create a popular government free from tyranny.
Through scholar-led discussions of these primary sources and sessions focused on classroom application, the symposium will equip teachers to lead students in the study of primary source documents that align with new state standards in Alabama.
Faculty for the symposium will include Professors Benjamin Gross (Jacksonville State University), Evan Lowe (Arizona State University), and Nicholas Higgins (North Greenville University).
Participants will receive a $150 stipend for completing the symposium, mileage reimbursement, and 21 hours of professional learning. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided each day of the program.
