Founding Civics Summer Book Club: The American Founders and Lincoln on Education

Join JMC for a summer reading group on how the American Founders and Abraham Lincoln viewed education.

Virtual Event

This club of up to ten teachers will read original sources from two key Founding Fathers—Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson—along with Abraham Lincoln. We will explore the theme of education in their writings and how they viewed it as essential to the success of the American republic. Lincoln offers an interesting perspective from the generation following the Founders, emphasizing reverence for the Constitution and laws as key to the perpetuation of the republic.

The book club discussions will be facilitated by JMC Senior Fellow for K-12 Civic Education Andrew Carico.

This club will meet virtually on Tuesday and Thursday from 7 – 8 pm ET during the weeks of June 15th and 22nd. Teachers will receive a $100 Amazon gift card for participation in the Club.

Spots in this book club will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
