Samuel Fleischacker (University of Illinois, Chicago) will give a lecture on The Wealth of Nations and the Theory of Moral Sentiments at the University of Pennsylvania on November 16 from 3:30-5:00pm as part of a four-event seminar series.

Published in 1776, The Wealth of Nations laid the foundations of modern economics. Two and a half centuries later, Adam Smith’s ideas continue to shape debates on markets, prosperity, political institutions, and the role of government.

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of The Wealth of Nations, the Penn Initiative for the Study of Markets (PISM) is hosting a four-event seminar series featuring leading experts on Adam Smith’s philosophy, political thought, and economics, together with a special exhibition at Penn’s Kislak Center showcasing first editions of The Wealth of Nations, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and other rare works.
