Teacher Program at the New York Historical: The Living Declaration
The Jack Miller Center is partnering with the Chang Chavkin Center at Bard College and Library of America to host a professional development event for middle and high school teachers.
Participants will have the opportunity to read and discuss the Declaration of Independence and other primary sources with peers and consider strategies for teaching the Declaration to their students. Teachers will also have the opportunity to explore The New York Historical with a member of their education team and learn about the NYH’s classroom resources.
Ted Widmer, author of The Living Declaration: A Biography of America’s Founding Text, published by Library of America, and Roosevelt Montás, executive director of the Chang Chavkin Center, will be featured speakers at the event.
Middle and high school teacher participants will be provided with breakfast and lunch, a free copy of The Living Declaration, and a $150 stipend. Certificates of completion will also be available upon request.
