The Founding Civics Initiative began working in Alabama in 2022, sponsoring a number of virtual seminars and in-person events for teachers in the greater Birmingham area. JMC currently partners with faculty at Jacksonville State University to provide professional development programs for teachers in Northeast Alabama, as well as graduate courses through the Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

The Founding Civics Initiative first expanded into Arizona in 2024. In partnership with the School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership at Arizona State University, a member of the Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium, JMC supports a summer graduate course for educators.

In 2026, JMC’s K-12 work is expanding into the Golden State, with the Claremont Graduate University and San Diego State University offering graduate courses through the Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

In 2023, the Founding Civics Initiative began working with universities in the nation’s capital, partnering with American University on a summer civics institute for teachers. In 2025, the Catholic University of America joined the Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

The Founding Civics Initiative began its work in Florida in 2020. Since then, JMC has built relationships with university, nonprofit, and district partners in the state to offer professional development programming for teachers statewide, such as the annual Florida Summit on Civic Education, hosted in partnership with the Lou Frey Institute and Sphere Education Initiatives.

The Founding Civics Initiative was launched in Chicago in 2016. JMC currently partners with the Big Shoulders Fund and Civic Spirit on programming for regional teachers, and supports graduate courses designed for teachers through the University of Chicago Graham School, a member of the Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

The Founding Civics Initiative expanded to Indiana in 2024. Through partnerships with the Indiana Bar Foundation and Purdue University, JMC offers professional development programs in Indianapolis and in West Lafayette.

The Founding Civics Initiative’s work in Louisiana began in 2025. JMC partnered with the Eric Voegelin Institute at Louisiana State University to offer a professional development symposium in Baton Rouge.

In 2024, the Founding Civics Initiative expanded to Michigan through programming with Michigan State University.

Starting in 2026, the Founding Civics Initiative is partnering with Bethel University to offer professional development programs in St. Paul.

Beginning in 2026, the Founding Civics Initiative is supporting summer programming for teachers in the Magnolia State in collaboration with the University of Mississippi’s Declaration of Independence Center for the Study of American Freedom.

In 2025, the University of Missouri joined JMC’s Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium, offering graduate courses specifically designed for working social studies teachers.

The Founding Civics Initiative expanded into New Jersey in 2023. Since then, we have supported a seminar for teachers each summer hosted by the James Madison Program at Princeton University.

JMC’s K-12 work in New York began through a partnership with New York City-based Civic Spirit in 2018. Together, JMC and Civic Spirit have facilitated numerous summer institutes for teachers at faith-based schools in New York City and around the country.

Starting in 2025, the JMC has partnered with the Institute of American Constitutional Thought and Leadership at the University of Toledo to offer a summer seminar for teachers in the Northwest Ohio region. JMC also supports graduate courses for teachers through Xavier University.

Beginning in 2025, the JMC partners with the University of Oklahoma’s Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage during their Summer Teacher Institute offered to educators in Oklahoma.

The Jack Miller Center, located in suburban Philadelphia, frequently hosts signature programs in the Philadelphia area—such as the American Civic Tradition Fellowship and the National Summit on Civic Education.

JMC is a member of PA Civics, a coalition of Pennsylvania-based civics organizations working to strengthen civic education across the commonwealth.

The Founding Civics Initiative expanded to South Carolina in 2022 by partnering with the Cincinnatus Center at Coastal Carolina University for a summer institute for teachers. In addition to the annual summer institute, the Cincinnatus Center now offers a virtual summer graduate course and is a member of JMC’s Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

Partners at North Greenville University offer an annual symposium that kicked off in 2023.

The Founding Civics Initiative expanded into Tennessee in 2024, supporting a program in partnership with the Center for Responsible Citizenship at Lee University.

JMC’s first teacher programs in Texas launched at Baylor University and the University of North Texas in the summer of 2022. Since then, we’ve conducted programs with the Dallas Independent School District, at the University of Dallas, and at the University of Texas at Austin.

Since 2025, the Founding Civics Initiative has supported graduate education for teachers through the Master of Arts in Constitutional Government, Civics & Law at Utah Valley University, a member of the JMC Civics Foundations Graduate Consortium.

JMC first started teacher programming in Virginia in 2019. Currently, we partner with faculty at the University of Virginia on a summer institute for teachers, and support graduate courses through Christopher Newport University.

Since 2016 JMC has collaborated with a number of faculty and local partners to offer professional development programs to Wisconsin teachers.

We support an annual seminar on civic literacy with the Center for the Study of Liberal Democracy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, have developed an innovative series of graduate courses for teachers with UW-Madison, and are partnering with Sphere Education Initiatives and the Wisconsin Institute for Citizenship & Civil Dialogue to support a Wisconsin Summit on Civic Education. Partner faculty at UW-Stout, UW-Eau Claire, and Carthage College also offer programs for Wisconsin teachers.
