Saturday Workshop on George Washington

The Jack Miller Center is partnering with Mount Vernon, Sphere Education Initiatives, and the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies on a one-day PD program in Madison for Wisconsin teachers.

Wisconsin

The workshop will focus on George Washington and the role his leadership and words played in shaping the early republic. Participants will look closely at how Washington handled disagreement, spoke about unity, and tried to guide a new nation through uncertainty. Using Washington’s Farewell Address and other key documents, the workshop examines how his ideas about leadership and public discourse continue to show up in American civic life.

Pepperdine professor Ed Larson will give an opening lecture on the Farewell Address. Then, renowned Wisconsin social studies teacher and Mount Vernon Regional Ambassador Kate Van Haren, Sphere Education Initiatives’ Senior Manager John Snoad, and JMC’s Teacher Programs Manager Emilee McHorney will each facilitate interactive workshop sessions.

The workshop is free to attend and participants will receive a $100 stipend for completion of the program.
